Wednesday Wishlist – On a Friday!

I know I know, I’ve been rubbish, to make it up to you I have put together this lush list of candles that I’m thinking about forgoing food for…

Candles1. The White Company Geranium Candle £26.00 I love the white on white design here!

2. Amara Jonathan Adler Peace Studded Candle £125.00 – Wow oh WOW! I need this in my life, tacky – oh yeh, but so cool! But at that price, again wow oh WOW!!

3. H&M Candle Collection £3.99 – A fab range in lots of colours at a great price!

4. Diptique £40.00 I still can’t believe I haven’t bought one of these coveted babies yet, however, I can’t decide if the scents are too strong for me, I also can’t decide which one I like best!

5. Jo Malone Grapefruit Candle £39.00 – Another one that thus far has escaped my grasp, although admittedly I don’t think I have ever even sniffed one ; o GASP!

6. Marks and Spencer Large Coconut Candle £12.00 – Coconut, enough said – yummy!

Too pricey? Primark have some gorgeous Vanilla and Coconut ones which I’ve been loving recently – so  much so that I’ve picked up the glass jar one, two pillar ones, the tea lights, and the diffuser! They just smell so yummy, and are actually the most scented candles – without being headachey – that I have ever come across, I will definitely be stocking up on these bad boys! And at £2 a pop – complete bargain!!

What are your fave scents and brands of candles?

Illamasqua Product Review…

DSC_0003
I finally bought myself some bits from the much raved about beauty brand Illamasqua. I had a look around their website and saw that their sale was pretty good, which I’ve heard is generally the case, especially in January. Thus I thought it would be the perfect time for to get aquainted!

So what did I buy…

Light Liquid Foundation – LF 140

It’s always dangerous to buy a foundation without it being matched to your skin colour/tone/type in real life, but Illamasqua have this pretty nifty chart, which tells you which shade you’d be in relation to other brands. For example most beauty fanatics will know their MAC shade off the top of their head, so you simply look this up on the chart, scan over to the right and there you have your illamasqua shade – genius! Unfortunately I now simply cannot find this AT ALL! I’ll keep trying and leave a link if I have any luck!

Now this is not to say that the shades will be the same as whichever brand you’re accustomed. The Illamasuqa shade was lighter, with a more yellow tone to it that my standard MAC NW20, but it was still right for me.

The consistencey is another factor I had to get used to, much thinner than my usual aforementioned MAC foundation, which I wasn’t worried about, however, it was very hard to blend and felt like I was just moving it around my face, rather than actually cover anything.

On the plus side, when you decide enough is enough and hope that it will not move around your face, it does leave a lovely dewy finish, another first for me, in comparison to my Studio Fix, which was very nice indeed. But this then felt tacky all day, and like I would remove it if I touched my face at all.

I’m glad I tried this when the price was marked down as honestly I wouldn’t buy this again, and in fact I’m finding it hard to even want to use it all – simply because of how it seems to just sit on my skin. Yet this isn’t to say that I wouldn’t try a different foundation formula from them, as I’ve heard some rave reviews, but I have a few others that I want to try way before I have another go with Illamasqua.

Left to Right: Concealor 115, Concealor 130, Light Liquid Foundation LW 140

2 x Concealors/Correctors – 115 and 130

I’m not usually one for buying different shades of concealors, however, due to the price (£7 each) and again the fact that I was buying online and wasn’t 100% sure on how the shades etc would look, I went for the two above.

Again unfortunately I don’t have much to shout about with these, I’ve only really used the lighter one, as I have dark circles and like to brighten up the area, and would only really use the darker one for blemishes etc.

The consistency is pretty similar to that of Benefit’s Boing, which is quite thick, and what I like to think of as a “tapping in” concealor rather than a rub or blend one. This means that anything more than literally warming it and tapping it in to the skin will remove it. This isn’t really a problem to me, as as long as it covers what needs to be covers then it’s all good in my book. Which it did, cover I mean. The problem was that then it would start to crack and all my fine lines would start to expose themselves -yep I have dark circles, and “liney” undereyes, which then looked almost crepey and cakey. And this was after applying eye cream as well.

Liquid Eyeliner Precision Ink – Abyss – Full Price

I was really excited about this as I wear liquid eyeliner every day, I feel naked without it, and I’ve just ran out of the one I’ve been using, Clinque Eye Defining Liquid Liner (review to come). I also saw that Megan from Wonderful You (another avid liquid liner fan) uses this regularly, and it looks fab on her!

So after all of this anticipation I was rather disappointed to find that it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. The nib is long, and definitely the best part of the product, really easy to use and has the ability to create small every day flicks, or sexy 60’s style feline eyes.

And the colour, initially, is really black and seems like it’s going to be the best thing ever. However, when it dries it looks like you could almost peel it off. It goes quite shiny and then flakes. It also rubs off on your upper eye lids, which obviously just looks awful. I think if the longevity was better I could deal with the shiny aspect of this! Literally gutted!

Medium Pencil for eyes, lips, face, and body – Debonair

I have yet to try this out, but from the swatch it seems quite pigmented, and easy to apply. I have to admit i thought this was a standard eyeliner, it didn’t realise it was multi-talented! A plus!

So all in all I haven’t had the best of luck with this brand, and honestly I’m peeved! I thought everything would just be amazing! I’m not throwing in the towel just yet though, I must be doing something wrong?!

What has your experience been with Illamasqua? Have you used any of these products? I’d love to know your thoughts!

My Pick of the SAG Awards 2014

So you may have realised that it’s awards season! No? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING? Well don’t fret, I’m going to try and bring you the best of all the major award ceremonies coming up in the next month and a bit. Click here to see my picks of the bestest dresses from the 71st Golden Globes!

Now I do apologise, as this one is a couple of days late, so I’ll get straight into it…Best-of

From top Left: Breaking Bads Anna Gunn in Monique Lhuillier with Iarene Neuwirth jewellery and an Edie Parker clutch. Kelly Osbourne wears pleated gown by Zac Posen, a Colette diamond handcuff and Le Vian Diamond ring. Amy Adams in a blue/purple one shoulder dress by Antonio Beradi and Jimmy Choos. Boardwalk Empire actress Gretchen Mol wears a mesh bodice gown by J.Mendel. New Girl actress Hannah Simone in Marchesa, a Ferragamo clutch, Casadei shoes and jewelry by Neil Lane and Dionea Orcini. Oprah Winfrey wears a ruched purple long sleeved Badgley Mischka gown. Isla Fisher accessorises her Oscar de la Renta gown with a Ferragamo box clutch, Bulgari jewelry and Christian Louboutin shoes. Maria Menounos in a Rani Zakhem gown. Julia Roberts wears a bespoke  wide-leg Valentino jumpsuit with silver earrings and silver Roger Vivier clutch. Malin Ackermann in a beaded black, gold and nude gown by Naeem Khan and the  Jimmy Choo sandals. Jennifer Lawrence wears a strapless sequinned gown by Dior. Tina Fey also in a Oscar de la Renta gown, with black and gold Roger Vivier Cerniera clutch, Van Cleef & Arpels diamond earrings and ring.

So did anyone make it into both my Golden Globes, and SAG Awards picks? Well yes, these two…

GG-and-SA-Best-of12 Years A Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o is rocking it in a gorgeous turquoise gown by Gucci with an elaborate floral neckline and Fred Leighton jewellery. This girl knows how to don’ some pretty bright colours, and the cut is just perfect! And Cate Blanchett looks stunning in a soft pink dress by Givenchy, Chopard jewelry and Roger Vivier shoes. Now I have seen that this look has been hit or miss with some fashion critics, which, to an extent, I do understand, the draped detail is a little odd. However, I think she looks really feminine and it’s a completely different look and style to her golden globes ensemble, so bonus points from me for mixing it up!

I can’t decide if this next dress is my favourite of them all, or if it’s just the one that I would like to wear most – I’m also not sure if these are the same thing??

rs_634x1024-140118161019-634_Elisabeth-Rohm-SAG-Awards_jl_011814_copyBut it’s Elisabeth Rohm in a delicate and so so gorgeous Marchesa lace and embroidered gown! So pretty!!

It’s time for the BOYS : )

and another celeb who features in both my top picks (for the Golden Globes, and SAG Awards)…

BoysJared Leto dons a black Dior suit with a white bow tie and polka-dot pocket square, and looks completely drool worthy! As does Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington in a very gentlemanly suit. James Marsden sported a Valentino suit in navy, and rocks a paisley pocket square. Whilst Matthew McConaughey impresses again in a black printed Dolce & Gabbana suit.

Now for a little extra; one of THE best TV programs ever went home empty handed, but I think we can safely see that they have made a huge impression on the fashion world – even having a secured a space in the boys section! But “here come the girls'”…

GOTNatalie Dormer – Margaery Tyrell looked effortlessly cool with her half-shaven do’ and edgy Marios Schwab dress. Lena Headey – Cersei Lannister wore a bold Jenny Packham gown. Sophie Turner – Sansa Stark wears a simple yet striking Dolce & Gabbana dress. And finally Carice Van Houten – Melisandre opted for a short Christian Dior dress teamed with lush red lips.

So, once again, which are your faves? Yeh yeh I know the boys ; p

Featured Post: Snakeskin Leather Phone Case

Nearly two weeks ago I was asked if I would like to review a phone case by designer A.P.C, sold at Avenue 32. As you may be aware I am partial to the odd leopard print accessory, read: obsessed with anything leopard print, and so was hesitant to take off my much-loved, but ridiculously tacky phone case.

20131026-080712-pm

However, when I was sent the link to these beautiful snakeskin (effect) 100% leather cases, I couldn’t resist.

cases

A.P.C. is known for its effortless appeal, however the process is anything but. Each aspect of the collection is designed in-house with rigorous attention to detail. None of the fabrics are bought in; instead each is designed exclusively for A.P.C. The team agonise over the choice of button, the length of a skirt or other hidden subtleties. Often more time is spent stripping down a garment to its bare basics to avoid over designing. Expect sweaters, coats, bags, and leather goods all made with A.P.C.’s discreet sense of luxury.

This sense of luxury and attention to detail is obvious through both the high-standard and superior quality of the case. Everything about it screams sumptuousness – it’s SO soft!

DSC_0024

Offered in both Caramel, and Beige I chose this rich caramel one, and it’s literally a mirror image of the picture shown on the website. A plus point for Avenue 32!

If you haven’t heard of Avenue 32, go and check it out! Now! They stock some really amazing brands, and the shoes, oh my goodness the shoes!

If you have heard of them, well then give yourself a pat on the back, as they have only been around for a couple of years (2011), but have swiftly become the online luxury shopping neighbourhood” offering clothing, shoes and accessories, and was even voted the second best online retailer by UK Vogue!

Now in terms of the case, although absolutely gorgeous, and of an impeccable standard, the design for me wasn’t very practical. I am always dropping my phone, and chanting “please don’t be smashed, please don’t be smashed” on the way down to picking it up. So having to constantly have my phone unprotected when in use seriously tested my nerves. However, maybe this is the training I need to not be such a clutz?

It really is a beautiful and certainly luxurious case, with a sophisticated, yet fun design. Simple and elegant, but definitely not boring, or plain!

As for value for money, it’s now half price selling at £30. Again for the quality and obvious work that’s gone into this product it is worth the money, even at the original price. Initially I think I would be reluctant to pay this price (my current one was £15 reduced to £2 (bargain)) and would have to “talk” myself into buying it, but it’s the sort of item that would be lovely to receive as gift!

One more thing that I wasn’t too fond of was the monogrammed initials of the designer printed on the case, I just felt that this should be my initials, which would be an amazing touch! Yet the initials were only on one side so that wasn’t really an issue.

I’m definitely not going to go straight back to my bling-tastic case, and WILL try and turn myself into a sophis, non-phone-dropping, classy chic, with my 100% leather snakeskin phone outfit!

Wednesday Wishlist – Skin Care…

I Thought I would throw in a Wednesday Wishlist for y’all today as I haven’t done one in a while…

Basically I have been religiously checking Bloglovin recently, as well as watching lots of vides on You tube, which means I have come across lots and lots of ‘2013 favourites’ posts and videos.

A blog, and You tube channel that really sticks out and appeals to me is Vivianna Does Make-up, it’s my new go to blog. I dare to think about much she spends on beauty products! But it saves me from doing it : )

So from some of her testimonials the following items are what I’m coveting at the moment…

no-info

La Roche-Posay Hydraphase UV Intense Rich – £13.20 – Escentual

Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanner – £14.39 – Escentual

I got my first Christmas present! BUT don’t tell dad…

Now I was planning on posting this on  Saturday morning, but I’ve been poorly all weekend, and didn’t actually move from my bed, poor me! I won’t bore you with the (really unflattering) details, and instead will justget on with some more exciting news…

Last week I received a very exciting, and extremely anticipated parcel through the post.

I finally ordered myself a make-up brush wrap from EMJ Company, a LEOPARD PRINT one! I posted about these beauties here, and EMJ so very kindly offered me a 10% discount on my order.

It’s taken me ages to get my bum into gear on this, and in the end I actually asked my dad and step-mum for one for Christmas. However, because of the discount I said I would order it myself.

A few days later and it was on my doorstep, and I accidently opened it! BUT it wasn’t my fault! I completely blame EMJ on this one ; ) I’ve ordered so much recently, due to Christmas presents, and because this package had no branding on I completely didn’t realise what I was opening – oopsy.

So when I realised what it was I sneakily took a photo and “promptly” (after cooing and ahhing and trying to wrap it all back up neatly) gave it to my dad so he can wrap it and give it back to me for me Christmas!

photo 4

I was also so pleasantly surprised, as not only was my beautiful Leopardy make-up brush wrap a whole lot bigger and sturdier than I imagined, there was also an unexpected pressie for me!

photo 1

This gorgeous lip gloss roll, with a sweet lil’ note, all for lil’ old me (the wannabe cowgirl in me there – sorry).

I, sadly, do not own many lip glosses, I can’t stand it when my hair gets stuck to my lips. But I’ve found it holds my lipsticks just swell! Just one little detail – I’m so going to have to buy myself another lippy pronto – how annoying that I was one short (in its place one of about 4 of the lip glosses that I actually own)!

photo 5

Now this little gem is £14 and really is a great way to store all your lipsticks, as well as a handy way to move them whilst travelling, after all you never know whether it’s a red or nude day when away!!

I literally cannot thank the team at EMJ Company enough for this gift, it was so unexpected and really cheered up what’s not been the best of months!

Now just don’t tell my dad as he knows nothing about this one! : o

Beauty Shop…

A bit of an impromptu post this morning. I was planning on giving you an update on my “Sorting my Life Out” journey, however, whilst in bed and trying to get up (a point that I will be adding to the aforementioned journey), I received an email update from Debenhams.

The title was in capitals, and rightly so, “Up to 30% OFF EVERY DEPARTMENT”. Now I have a very small Debenhams just round the corner from where I work, and they have had constant offers, discounts and sales on for the past three weeks or so. However, the beauty department was exempt from all of these offers, typical!

But not today my friends, it’s not the full 30%, but 10%, but hey it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick (as my dad would say, ohhhh yes I did just quote my dad).

Now I’ve only scrolled to half way through page three, of which there are twelve, with 200 products on each – OH MY GOODNESS! And the reason I stopped was because I knew I had to share this with you asap!

I’m going to put together a wish list, and when I say wish list I mean it’s probably going to accidentally end up in my shopping basket and eventually to my eager hands!

But come back later to see if I had any type of restraint whatsoever and if not what I bought!

HURRRRYYYYYYY…

Have Christmas Cards Changed Their Spots?

Have you noticed that Christmas cards this year are a little more, well fun? Humorous, cheeky, even sarcastic – “Ah Bum Hug” anyone? By the amazing team at Bread and Jam over on Not on the Highstreet – I literally want their entire range!

With this in mind I have decided to design a small range of Christmas cards, which are a little more “on-trend” than the traditional “sleigh in snow” versions.

This pack will consist of 6 designs for £5 (postage will cost extra). And ALL the proceeds will go to an amazing charity…

My family and I are raising money for the fabulous Nurses and Drs at the Ron Johnson Ward at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. These Nurses and Drs went above and beyond to give great comfort to my cousin in his final days, to make both him and my family as comfortable as possible. Most importantly my cousin never felt judged and felt happy to be himself surrounded by people who got to know the real him.

We have a Just Giving page set up if you would like to know more about this fabulous ward, and the charity that supports it…

https://www.justgiving.com/laura-fogg/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=shares-from-eua&utm_content=laura-fogg&utm_campaign=eua-share-facebook

Here are a couple of designs from the collection of Christmas cards, I am still working on the others, but will be ordering by the end of the day…

Can you see a theme!
