Oscars 2014

So awards season is officially over, sad times! Here are my picks of the 86th Oscars…

Just click on the picture to make it larger.

Photos from top left: Jennifer Lawrence – Dior Couture,  Anne Hathaway – Gucci,  Naomi Watts – Calvin Klein, Olga Kurylenko – Alice Elia – through Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green DressSally Hawkins – Valentino, Julie Delpy – Jenny Packham, Karen O – Camilla Staerk and Brandy St. John, Olivia Wilde – Valentino, Portia De Rossi – Naeem Khan, Veerle Baetens, Bette Midler – Reem Acra, Calista Flockhart – Andrew GN.

However, I think these fab ladies win hands down for the accolade of BEST DRESSED, not only for this years Oscars, but for the entire awards season! For both gals I literally gasped, and WOWED, oohhhed and ahhhed. They both just look so so stunning…

Kelly Osbourne wore a Badgley Mischka dress, whilst Kate Hudson draped herself in Alteir Versace.

I think it’s become clear, not only through this post but my other award posts, that I am partial to a creamy, goldy, embroidered gown; why not remind yourself of all my other best dressed celebs …

Emmys, Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Grammys, BAFTA’s!

The Boys

Jared Leto aka ‘Best Supporting Actor for Dallas Buyers Club’, wore Saint Laurent, I especially loved his spangly buttons!

An Afterthought…

My initial feeling to Cate Blanchett’s dress was “it’s pretty, but I’ve seen better”. However, after watching some highlights (the actual show was 1:30-4:00am on a Sunday night – not sure my boss would have been happy with me Monday morning) and seeing Ryan Seacrest chatting with her, I decided that actually she looked absolutely gorgeous. I think this is enhanced through the fact that she simply oozes loveliness – she just seems so kind and genuine! But also her skin, (oh my!) and her hair, she literally shines, and because she’s made my picks in each award post I couldn’t not include her here, I think she’s worthy ; )

Who are your award season heroes? And have you seen any of the ‘must see’ films? I’m currently reading “12 Years a Slave” SOB!

Wednesday Wishlist: Hair Care…

It’s that time again, the time when I literally list the things I’m coveting (for this week anyways), and want to spend all my money on.

This week it’s hair care!

I can’t tell you how much I wish for long, thick, glossy, gorgeous hair…

Photos left to right: Edge of Eden and  Pinterest PS. I LOVE Kate!

So this month I’m lusting these items to help me grow and groom my locks!

  4. 3″ More Inches Life Extending Shampoo, Conditioner, and Pre-wash Kit – £52 – Look Fantastic – This is the cheapest I’ve found it!

I’ve decided I’m going to get the 3 More Inches set to see how this works, obviously I’ll let you all know, but maybe I could buy the travel kit at £22.05 (this one is cheaper at Beauty Bay) instead?!

What are your top tips for keeping hair n great condition, as well as possibly adding on an inch or 2, or 3?!

Girl Crush – Olivia Wilde

Wow, this week has been crazy! Which meant that I missed Wednesday’s Girl Crush post – oops!

But better late than never, and this week I bring you Olivia Wilde! After her amazing Golden Globes dress…

Doesn’t she just look stunning in every single one!

But not only can she don an elaborate, floor length dress, she can also rock the casu look in a graphic tee and hoody!

But does anyone remember when she played the “punky” Alex in The Oc??

Is there anyone in particular that you would like me to feature?

The Grammys 2014

As mentioned in my top picks from the SAG Awards, I’m going to bring you my top picks of the red carpet fashion from all (or as many as I can) of the various up and coming awards.

This time it’s The Grammy’s – now I thought there may be a few WOW’s and OMG’s compared to some of the classic looks worn by the actresses at the “movie” awards.

Now I’ve made no secrets of the fact that I haven’t as yet been bowled over by any of the looks I’ve seen so far, and honestly, that’s still the case. Although some of the dresses are completely gorgeous, probably some of my faves yet, but none of those aforementioned WOW’s or OMG’s, sad face!

But as promised here are the ones that stand out, although honestly there weren’t that many attendees, thus not many dresses to pick from, eek…

From left to right; Anna Kendrick wears an Azzaro gown with a Joan Hornig clutch, Chrissy Teigen in Johanna Johnson, Ciara adorns her bump in Emilio Pucci, Katy Perry’s second Valentino dress of the night was my preference, Kelly Osbourne wears Badgley Mishka and accessorises with Loree Rodkin jewels and Brian Atwood shoes, Iggy Azalea in Elia Saab, Taylor Swift wears Gucci Premiere, Giuliana Rancic in Alex Perry, Natasha Bedingfield accessorises her Christian Sirianow dress with an Emkuo clutch and Samantha Wills jewellery.

Someone that I never thought would ever be one of my favourite looks was Paris Hilton in Milani…

I also loved Beyonce’s gorgeous Michael Costello dress…

As for the boys, Macklemore looked pretty dashing in his teal velvet suit, and check out the shoes!

Hope you’re liking my awards posts! Who do you think is constantly getting it right?

Fashion Icon – 25 years in the making…

You know the jist, she’s from Croydon, she was spotted by a modelling agency when she was young,  she joined what’s claimed to be the group of original Supermodels, which became known as the ‘Big Six’, she was part of the infamous Primrose Hill set; she’s probably one of the most famous models ever, and she loves a bit of Topshop.

What you may not know, is that today she is 40! WHAT?!? 13 years my senior and she looks better than I do, in fact she looks better than I did at 21!

Name: As if you don’t know!

Age: 40 TODAY!

Career: Fashion ICON, spanning 25 years in the fashion and beauty industry.

Magazine Covers: 300+

Vogue Paris Covers: 20

Check out Grazia Daily for their pick of Kate’s 25 most iconic covers!

I don’t think anyone can argue that Kate doesn’t have an influence on fashion trends, she made striped tee’s, like the one she’s wearing above, a must-have wardrobe staple!

She made her Playboy cover debut on the 60th anniversary edition of the magazine, wearing the classic bunny outfit, and you’d be forgiven for thinking this was at the height of her career, this was taken in December last year, 2 MONTHS AGO!!!! I just hope I look even half as good as her at 40! Actually I’ll take that at 30!

Happy Birthday Kate!

I’d love to know what your most favourite Kate Moss moment/outfit is??

Open your eyes, frame your face…

Now this post is a tad embarrassing on two counts for me; the first being that these photos aren’t great – I had a weird red glow on them which I’ve tried to cancel out, and can’t decide if I’ve made them worse or not. Secondly, and far worse, is the fact that I look like I have no eyebrows.

But this is in fact the point of this post…The importance of DEFINED eyebrows! They really do complete your look, as well as accentuate your eyes and frame your face!

I have to say I really do believe that this step is one of, if not the, most important part to any make-up look, which my sister and cousins can vouch for; here I am holding my cousin down so that I can fill in her eyebrows before a night out – can you tell that she’s used to it by now??

Note: No family members were hurt in the making of this post.

And here you can see the difference it makes to my face and why I think it’s so important…

As you can see with my au-natural eyebrows I look VERY very odd!

I use the HD Brows palette in Foxy to fill in my eyebrows, which consists of four colours; Nude, Warm Brown, Dark Brown, and Carbon. I use the warm brown colour for my day-to-day look, which is the middle picture above. Whilst for nights out (far right picture above) I use both the warm and dark browns for a more dramatic look. I then also add some of the nude under my brow as a highlighter.

As for brushes I use a Ruby and Millie brush generally and then touch up with the brush that came with the hd brows palette or the double ended Smokey Eye brush from Topshop.

However, you do not need to buy specific Eyebrow products to define your eyebrows, I used to always use, and sometimes still do, a Maybelline Eyeshadow. As long as the colour is Matte it will work fine. The reason I wanted to try a different product was due to the fact that my hair is getting lighter, sometimes I need to remind myself of this, but I am now so used to having quite bold eyebrows that I can easily get a little carried away.

And on that note it is possible to go to the extreme…

Does anyone remember when this happened on Desperate Scousewives??

But how weird would we look without them…

celebs1What do you think – would you prefer big bold eyebrows or none at all? And do I need to go even lighter with the brows? i’d love to now what you think!

Hair Help…

I was trying on a cardi in Next today and I don’t know if it was the flourecsent lights in the changing rooms or if I generally just look pretty washed out today (or, SOB, all of the time) but I just didn’t like what I was seeing!

Basically I had my hair highlighted at the weekend, and I thought I loved it, but now I’m worried that the lighter it gets, the less it suits me. I’ve been in the process of getting lighter since April, from being purple, which faded to red and took ages to eventually go brown, so my hairdresser would kill me if she saw this!

This is me today, not in the horrific blue lighting of the changing rooms, but I thought you guys could give me some general feedback, BE KIND PLEASE…

Blonde Hair

Now this photo is exactly as I took it, I haven’t even attempted to edit the lighting! And please note that this is about an hour before I leave work, so I know I look a little “dishevelled”!!

I thought I would then share with you my last couple of years hair history, so that you could tell me what you think suits me best?

Hair History

I apologise for some of the shoddy iphone pics, as well as my crazy eyes in photo 8, I had awful devil eyes!

So what d’ya think?? should I stay blonde or go darker?

Girl Crush…

So I had a lil’ bit of an unintentional Jennifer Lawrence fest last week…

First off was obviously The Hunger Games Catching Fire, and WOW, I loved this one more than the first. Although I think this was mainly to do with Peta. In the first film I wasn’t sure of his casting for this role. I was so in love with the books – it literally took me a week to read all three – and for me that just wasn’t how Peta looked.

But in the second one he definitely manned up (which always helps ; p), even if Katniss had to save his bum more often than not.

The second was the Silver Linings Playbook, now I tried to read this book and really struggled. To be honest I wasn’t really sure what the storyline was going into it, and I just could not get my head around it, I think I started to feel like I was going crazy! With this in mind, and even though before reading the book I really wanted to see the film, I didn’t have huge expectations for the film, I knew JL had won an Oscar for best performance by an actress, as well as a whole host of other awards, but I thought I was going to be just as confused as I was with the book.

How wrong I was! I loved this film! It’s very rare that I prefer the film if I have read the book/s first, bit The Silver Linings Playbook is definitely an exception. I wasn’t actually feeling great when I watched it and had been off work and in bed all day, but this film really cheered me up! It’s such a feel good film, but still hits a deep and  un-chartered topic.

But it’s not only her films that are great, she seems to be a really genuine and down-to-earth person, and lets face it at 23 and with all that she’s accomplished you would expect at least a couple of diva moments. But no, she (apparently) picks Bud(weiser) over fancy artisan beers, and even goes to premieres, The Great Gatsby Premiere in New York to be exact, with her hair up and without any make up! Yes you heard me NO MAKE-UP!

And obviously she still looked bloody gorgeous!

As well as this she still has the ability to completely transform herself, from the fresh-faced beauty above, to girl-next-door, sophisticated ladeee, and super sexy siren…

Extensions Experiment…

For the longest time I have wanted to have my hair ombred, however, my hairdresser was worried that my hair wouldn’t be able to handle all that bleach. So the other day I had a thought, what if I tried it on my extensions, hmmmmm, experiment….

I bought this Loreal Hair Lightening kit, mixed it all up and applied it to about four – five inches to the ends of the extensions. I just used my hands (with gloves) to work into the hair.

Photo 06-11-2013 01 48 13 pm

I left this on for around 2o minutes, and then applied a little bit more product to about an inch above the existing highlighted sections. I thought this would make it all a little bit softer and without a harsh line. I waited another 20 minutes and then washed it all off.

I left the anti-brassiness conditioner on them for about an hour just to give them a lil’ bit of love, don’t they look lovely : s

Photo 06-11-2013 08 31 53 pm

I blow dryed (how hard is it to blow dry hair extensions!?!) and straightened them, I usually leave a bit wave in them, so that they blend in a bit more with my real hair, but I wanted to see what the colour looked like. Here they actually look quite light and in pretty good condition…

I was quite happy with the effect, however, when I put them in I realised that I ideally wanted them a little blonder (although the instructions said not to leave the product on for longer than 45 minutes) so I played it safe! In this photo they show that definitely need some Moroccan Oil, or a trim, or some serious lovin’!

Photo 06-11-2013 09 30 18 pm

Then I started toying with the idea of applying some colour to the ends. These pics gave me some inspiration of a colour I’ve not yet had, blue?!!

I’ve heard quite a bit about Bleach London, and when I spotted ‘Washed Up Mermaid’ in my local Boots, and saw that the price had gone from £7 to £5 I snapped it up – on my Boots points – woooo! I also picked up some Jerome Russell bleach powder and cream to apply beforehand to give it an extra oomph, and so I didn’t get some weird river-green colour.

I did the exact same method as above with the bleach, however this time round I bought a tinting brush, as thought the blue may stain. Also the instructions for this one said you could leave the bleach on for up to an hour and a half. I didn’t want to leave it for too long considering I’d only bleached the hair a couple of days before, however, I checked the hair after twenty minutes and nothing had changed : / in the end I left the bleach on for about an hour as I was running out of time. With the product on, to me, it still didn’t look like much had changed, but I shampooed and conditioned them with my Blonde Glam Redken products, towel dried them, and prepared for the fun!

I applied the Bleach London ‘Washed Up Mermaid’ again with the brush to about two inches from the end of the hair and left for 15 minutes as instructed.

You then simply rinse in luke-warm water and voila blue tips! I think I may add some more next time to get a bolder result, I love the cooler they look with the product on so that’s my aim next time, and I’m gonna be brave and go higher! But pretty cool right?
