Oscars 2014

So awards season is officially over, sad times! Here are my picks of the 86th Oscars…

Just click on the picture to make it larger.

Photos from top left: Jennifer Lawrence – Dior Couture,  Anne Hathaway – Gucci,  Naomi Watts – Calvin Klein, Olga Kurylenko – Alice Elia – through Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green DressSally Hawkins – Valentino, Julie Delpy – Jenny Packham, Karen O – Camilla Staerk and Brandy St. John, Olivia Wilde – Valentino, Portia De Rossi – Naeem Khan, Veerle Baetens, Bette Midler – Reem Acra, Calista Flockhart – Andrew GN.

However, I think these fab ladies win hands down for the accolade of BEST DRESSED, not only for this years Oscars, but for the entire awards season! For both gals I literally gasped, and WOWED, oohhhed and ahhhed. They both just look so so stunning…

Kelly Osbourne wore a Badgley Mischka dress, whilst Kate Hudson draped herself in Alteir Versace.

I think it’s become clear, not only through this post but my other award posts, that I am partial to a creamy, goldy, embroidered gown; why not remind yourself of all my other best dressed celebs …

Emmys, Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Grammys, BAFTA’s!

The Boys

Jared Leto aka ‘Best Supporting Actor for Dallas Buyers Club’, wore Saint Laurent, I especially loved his spangly buttons!

An Afterthought…

My initial feeling to Cate Blanchett’s dress was “it’s pretty, but I’ve seen better”. However, after watching some highlights (the actual show was 1:30-4:00am on a Sunday night – not sure my boss would have been happy with me Monday morning) and seeing Ryan Seacrest chatting with her, I decided that actually she looked absolutely gorgeous. I think this is enhanced through the fact that she simply oozes loveliness – she just seems so kind and genuine! But also her skin, (oh my!) and her hair, she literally shines, and because she’s made my picks in each award post I couldn’t not include her here, I think she’s worthy ; )

Who are your award season heroes? And have you seen any of the ‘must see’ films? I’m currently reading “12 Years a Slave” SOB!

My Pick of the BAFTAs 2014…

Did anyone watch the BAFTA’s last night? I sat in front of my TV with my notebook and iPad (following E! Online UK on Twitter), eagerly awaiting for the Red Carpet coverage to start with Dermot and Fearne. I have to say I was a little disappointed. It’s no secret that I haven’t been bowled over by this year’s award season, as mentioned here, however, last night it wasn’t  the catwalk – who are they kidding – but the lack of coverage.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love Fearne and Dermot, both individually and as a duo, and it was obvious that they “grabbed” everyone they could. But quite a few people slipped through the net. After a bit of research this morning I realise that quite a few people arrived early – that’s just annoying! Half of the gals below I didn’t see strut their stuff – is this not an opportunity missed!? I think so, even if it wasn’t to show case your dress, surely you’d want to “accidently” bump into Leo, or Fassbender, or TOM HARDY! Although he’s another one that I didn’t realise was there until he popped up to present the Best Leading Actress award.

Oh well, here are my picks…

Photos from Vogue.co.uk, Grazia Daily and Contact Music

Pictures from Left to Right: Lupita Nyong’o in a Christian Dior Couture dress and Ana Khouri jewellery, Claudia Winkleman in Alice Temperley, Imogen Poots in Givenchy, Olga Kurylenko in Burberry, Fearne Cotton in William Vintage, Rebecca Wang, Rita Wilson in Jenny Packham, Hofit Golan, Sara McDonald, Maggie Gyllenhaal in Lanvin, Laura Haddock in Burberry, Alicia Vikander in Chanel, Helen McCrory, Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen and Chopard jewelry, Amy Adams in Victoria Beckham, Uma Thurman in Atelier Versace.

Granted I have had no idea who half of this bunch were, but they looked bloomin’ lovely! And in the interest of being thorough I did a lil’ bit of rsearch for y’all…

Imogen Poots – Actress in Casualty, 28 Weeks Later, V for Vandetta tpo name a few – she has a couple of films out this year! Olga Kurylenko – Quantum of Solice (how did I not recognise her). Rebecca Wang – producer. Hofit Golan – Israel’s answer to Paris Hilton apparently. Sara McDonald Noel Gallaghers wife. Laura Haddock (I knew I recognised her, but I just couldn’t place her face) The Inbetweeners, Captain America. Alicia Vikander –  Anna Karenina.

Who’s your fave this time?? I’m actually finding it hard to pick!

The Grammys 2014

As mentioned in my top picks from the SAG Awards, I’m going to bring you my top picks of the red carpet fashion from all (or as many as I can) of the various up and coming awards.

This time it’s The Grammy’s – now I thought there may be a few WOW’s and OMG’s compared to some of the classic looks worn by the actresses at the “movie” awards.

Now I’ve made no secrets of the fact that I haven’t as yet been bowled over by any of the looks I’ve seen so far, and honestly, that’s still the case. Although some of the dresses are completely gorgeous, probably some of my faves yet, but none of those aforementioned WOW’s or OMG’s, sad face!

But as promised here are the ones that stand out, although honestly there weren’t that many attendees, thus not many dresses to pick from, eek…

From left to right; Anna Kendrick wears an Azzaro gown with a Joan Hornig clutch, Chrissy Teigen in Johanna Johnson, Ciara adorns her bump in Emilio Pucci, Katy Perry’s second Valentino dress of the night was my preference, Kelly Osbourne wears Badgley Mishka and accessorises with Loree Rodkin jewels and Brian Atwood shoes, Iggy Azalea in Elia Saab, Taylor Swift wears Gucci Premiere, Giuliana Rancic in Alex Perry, Natasha Bedingfield accessorises her Christian Sirianow dress with an Emkuo clutch and Samantha Wills jewellery.

Someone that I never thought would ever be one of my favourite looks was Paris Hilton in Milani…

I also loved Beyonce’s gorgeous Michael Costello dress…

As for the boys, Macklemore looked pretty dashing in his teal velvet suit, and check out the shoes!

Hope you’re liking my awards posts! Who do you think is constantly getting it right?

My Picks from the Golden Globes 2014…

So Sunday night saw the 71st annual Golden Globes awards, hosted at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and presented, for the third year in a row by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Check out Wikipedia for all the nominees and winners. Now to the important bit – THE dresses…

I have to say, I wasn’t really blown away with any of the entire looks this year, not compared to some of the fab dresses at last years Emmy’s. There was even a duplicate dress – GASP.

Miss Golden Globe (an annual title awarded, traditionally to the daughter (or son – Mr Golden Globe) of a celebrity, to assist in the awards) Sosie Bacon, daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, on her introduction to the Globes, and at the Emmy’s Shasi Wells, actress and girlfriend of Dylan McDermott, wore the same dress by designer Rhea Costa – but it is a gooden, and made it into my faves list for both!

But just looking back over the gallery of the Emmy 2013 dresses, even the ones I wasn’t sure about seem better than some of the Golden Globes ones.

But I think I’ll let these gals off, just click on the pic for a better look…

Unfortunately my September girl crush Jennifer Lawrence’s dress wasn’t my cup of tea, a gown from the Dior Couture autumn/winter 2013 collection and Roger Vivier clutch. But honestly I think her personality, charisma and confidence allows her to pretty much wear anything and look ! And she took home the Best Supporting Actress in a Musical or Comedy award for American Hustle. Go Girl!!

Personally I think the boys blew the ladies out of the water, and hit a massive trend tick box – velvet…

Matthew McConaughey in a Green Velvet Dolce and Gabbana blazer with his wife Camila Alves at the NBC Universal after-party, and Kevin Spacey in a Burberry tuxedo.

What do you think? Am I way off base? I’d love to know if I haven’t included your favourites!

Leopard Spots, and Gold, and Feathers, OH MY!

Every year, without fail, I say to myself that I will be organised, and start Christmas shopping early, which would help me in so many ways;

1) I wouldn’t have the stress of trying to find presents at the last minute, ultimately resulting in having to give pressies that I’m not 100% happy about.

2) No crazy “MOVE OUTTA’ MY WAY” experiences with Saturday shoppers!

3) I would dodge the December poordom that Christmas always brings!

Plus so many more!

And every year, it gets to two weeks or less before Christmas and I’m running around doing all of the above, having missed the last delivery date for online shopping.

But this year, low and behold, I actually did it! I bought my first Christmas present in October, OCTOBER!! Granted this was because I bought a make-up birthday present (ya know, that something little extra), and it was on offer – two for £10, and I thought “I know” I’ll get this for Tallulah* (Names have been changed – you never know who’s reading!), and presto, my first Christmas present was sitting at the bottom of my wardrobe.

Then came November, and I continued to find things for the parentals, sis, nieces, etc. and I started to build up such a mound that it actually started to get difficult to reach some of my clothes!

It got to the two-weeks-before-Christmas mark and I realised that I had in fact finished. Not only that but I had wrapped everything too. And when I say wrapped, I mean wrapped, check out these lil’ beauties…

Leopard Print Wrapping Paper

I think I’ve outdone myself! This amazing wrapping paper was designed by Biba for House of Fraser.

I think it’s obvious by now that I LOVE leopard print, and I had in mind that I wanted some sort of leopard wrapping paper. When I found this, on sale for £2.50 for a 3 metre roll, I was so excited, it was exactly what I wanted! I literally love it! And I will be policing everyone who opens a present of mine to insist they don’t rip it! Only joking, maybe : s

Initially my plan was to mix this paper with my usual brown craft paper plus ribbon. But the three rolls of the leopard paper that I bought stretched so far that I didn’t need to. Instead I got a couple of different black ribbons and, as I knew I didn’t want everything to look the same I “parcelled” some up with the ribbon as well as made some bows. Then I found this gorgeous pink ribbon and thought that this would look fab in the mix, this pressie is one of my Mama’s so it looks great sitting amongst her other ones. I also found some leftover black feathers and placed them on some of the smaller pressies. I think this little touch has given the overall effect of my wrapping a very 1920’s Art Deco vibe to it, no?

Last year I wasn’t overly happy with the presents I gave, but this year I’m SO excited for Christmas, simply because I really feel that I got everyone something they’ll love, this is expecially so for my sister’s present, I got her’s in November and literally cannot wait to see her reaction!

I think the fact that I’m so happy with all the gifts I’ve bought and the reason I was so organised this year is definitely down to the fact that I had a little brain-wave in early November regarding some “themed” pressies for everyone, this made it exciting to look for everyone’s presents, and getting a grip on it early also meant that I could shop around for best prices. Now I can’t give away the theme yet, again there are spies everywhere ; ) so you’ll have to tune in after Christmas to find out what it is.

How are you getting on with Christmas shopping? And do you have any innovative wrapping ideas? Maybe next year I could make mine have some sixties vibes man!?
